FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - The former information technology director at Ripon College has been charged with 64 counts for allegedly stealing more than $400,000 from the school.
54-year-old Ronald Haefner made his initial appearance Friday in Fond du Lac County Circuit Court. Haefner is being held on $250,000 cash bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 2.
The case filed represents incidents that allegedly took place between June of 2009 and November 2013.
Ripon College has issued the following statement:
“Ripon College launched an internal investigation in early November 2013 after College officials discovered unauthorized purchases on Ripon College accounts. When we determined fraudulent activity we terminated the individual, alerted the authorities and have been cooperating with the ongoing investigation ever since.
The College administration is and has been fully aware of this matter and we have been working closely with law enforcement officials, our insurance carrier and our Board of Trustees, who have been kept informed throughout the process. We are confident that justice will prevail and that the College will be reimbursed for its losses.
We have taken some proactive steps to reduce the likelihood of this happening in the future.”
