New adventures in hi-fi for R.E.M. fans: the band has announced that its entire catalog -- from both its I.R.S. and Warner Brothers recording eras -- have been mastered for iTunes. The band says that these tweaked versions have " increased audio fidelity that more closely replicates what the artists, recording engineers and producers intended."
The new R.E.M. material is available individually by track, album, or in four specific bundles -- the complete studio albums of the I.R.S. or Warner Brothers era, and the complete rarities of each era. Strangely, there is an additional group of Warner albums, from 1998 until 2011, that are also available but not grouped into the Warner bundle.
The rarities bundle from the I.R.S. era has 25 tracks, while the Warner rarities total a whopping 131 songs.
All tracks and collections are available on iTunes now.
Here is the rundown for the studio album collections:
COMPLETE I.R.S. STUDIO ALBUMS
Fables of the Reconstruction (1985)
Lifes Rich Pageant (1986)
COMPLETE WARNER BROS. STUDIO ALBUMS, VOL. 1
