GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The fifth annual open house at the U.S. Coast Guard station in Green Bay was used to help promote the use of life jackets if folks head out on boats.
“If you end up in the water, you don’t have to try and swim and try to keep yourself up until someone can come and rescue you,” Senior Chief Kyle Dupree told FOX 11. ” It’s going to save your life until someone can come rescue you.”
Officials indicate drowning remains the primary cause of death in boating accidents. Wisconsin ranks seventh nationwide for boating fatalities.
Those in attendance could also get a safety check of their vessels and a look inside the Coast Guard patrol boat. It's part of National Safe Boating Week.
