GREEN BAY, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wisconsin Public Service wants you to exchange your old wood stoves for modern heating equipment.

Spokesperson Lisa Prunty says the company is getting a grant from the American Lung Association to help improve air quality in homes as well as in the environment. "We started it about 6 weeks ago, and we already have 220 applications that have been field, which equals about 600-thousand dollars."

The program will get you grants and incentives to pay for newer, more efficient wood stoves like pellet stoves or outdoor boilers, or get your old stove repaired with a filter insert. Prunty says you should be thinking about those replacements now. "It's probably a good time to take a look at the situation, take a look at the incentives, at the financing that's available and get the new wood stove in or the new inserts in."

You can qualify from around $1,000 to $6,000 under the program.
