UNDATED (WSAU) -- The police Special Weapons and Tactics, or S.W.A.T. team that participated in an August armed standoff at a Wautoma pharmacy has been recognized as the S.W.A.T. team of the year for 2013.

That team consisted of specialists from several agencies. Officers from the Waupaca and Waushara county sheriff’s departments, Portage County Special Response Team, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s S.W.A.T Team, and the Green Lake Area Combined Tactical Unit received the awards Tuesday during a law enforcement conference.

The team members from multiple agencies successfully managed the scenes as 33-year-old Timothy R Pawlacyk from rural Redgranite robbed a Wautoma pharmacy and then crashed his getaway car before taking refuge in an unoccupied home for several hours. Pawlacyk shot himself to death inside the house. No one else was injured during the 10-hour long sequence of events.
