MADISON, Wis (WSAU-Wheeler News)  A Madison man who threatened two state troopers 24 years ago is now accused of a threatening a judge who ruled against him in a small claims case. A mental evaluation was ordered yesterday to determine if 55-year-old George Bennett is competent to help a public defender with his case.

Another hearing on the matter is set for July 8th in Dane County Circuit Court.

The defense tried but failed to drop a felony count of threatening a judge.

Bennett is also charged with illegal firearm possession, unlawful phone usage, and disorderly conduct. The state Justice Department said Bennett left a series of harassing and threatening voice-mails with Circuit Judge Rhonda Lanford over a three-day period, after she ruled against him on June 6th.

Madison Police said they found a gun when they searched Bennett's home. Officials said Bennett has a long criminal history dating back to 1990.
