CHICAGO (WTAQ) - A federal appeals court Thursday released 268 unedited pages of documents connected with the John Doe investigation into Wisconsin's recall elections.

Seventh Circuit appellate judge Frank Easterbrook of Chicago rejected a request from two undisclosed parties to seal the documents -- which previously had many items blacked out.

The parties tried to convince Easterbrook that their privacy would be invaded, because the unedited release would disclose their identities. Two opposing parties in the case did not object to the new disclosure -- state prosecutors and one of the targets of the probe, the Wisconsin Club for Growth.

The latest John Doe was looking into illegal coordination of campaigns and fundraising between outside conservative groups and Republican candidates in the 2011 and '12 recall contests -- including Governor Scott Walker.

Federal Judge Rudolph Randa put the investigation on hold last month, saying the Club for Growth's free speech rights were being violated. Prosecutors are still appealing that decision.
