PLATTEVILLE, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Power and Light is making a lot of progress in getting power restored to the Platteville area.

Over 3,000 customers in Grant County were still in the dark around sunrise, after two tornadoes hit the area late Monday night. By 10 a.m. Wednesday, only about 850 Power and Light customers in Grant County were still waiting to get their juice back.

However, new storms caused problems in Rock County -- where the utility had almost 1,700 customers without power by late morning.

We Energies also had new outages as a wind and hail storm moved through. As of 10 a.m., about 7,000 customers of Wisconsin's largest utility were in the dark -- mostly in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties.

Meanwhile, a flash flood watch remains in effect through Thursday morning for most of southern Wisconsin.

Forecasters say another round of heavy thunderstorms is expected between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. The National Weather Service says another 1 to 3 inches of rain are expected, in a region that's already saturated from storms from Monday through Wednesday morning.
