Sum 41's Deryck Whibley Says Iggy Pop and Tommy Lee Helped Him with Sobriety

When  Sum 41 's  Deryck Whibley  collapsed a few months ago, he was near death and drinking so much he  said on his website , "If I have one drink the docs say I will die." Now he's clean and sober with the help of some friends, including  Tommy Lee  and  Iggy Pop .

The two veteran rockers -- and now-sober alcoholics -- have coached Whibley on how to navigate his sobriety. In an interview in the new issue of  Kerrang! , Whibley shares, "Now [that] I'm sober, I don't get calls from certain people that I used to…the drinking friends. Now I'm [a] bum-out to them. Who wants to invite the sober guy to the party?"

Whibley says Iggy Pop "has been incredibly supportive...he had a lot of great advice. He's been through it all. We've been friends for years."

Deryck says Tommy Lee schooled him on "what to expect from people, that not everyone will understand." And instead of going out drinking, Whibley now goes out for coffee with his new friends,  Guns 'N Roses '  Duff McKagan  and  Matt Sorum .

Sum 41 fans might hear about some of these experiences in music form soon: Whibley writes  on his website  that he's been setting up a studio and beginning to write some new material.
