Police chief on administrative leave after OWI arrest

AMERY, Wis. (WSAU) -- The northwestern Wisconsin police chief arrested Sunday for drunk driving has been placed on paid administrative leave.

The Amery City Council Personnel Committee discussed Chief Thomas Marson’s arrest Monday, but formal city council action isn’t expected until next Monday. City officials issued a statement Tuesday morning confirming the administrative leave, and the appointment of Retired Sergeant Mark Meyer as the acting chief. Meyer was working for the department part-time in his retirement.

Marson was arrested by a Polk County Sheriff’s Department deputy Sunday morning after he slid into a ditch at Highway 46 and A between Amery and Deer Park Saturday night. His blood-alcohol level registered point-156.

Amery Mayor Michael Karuschak has not commented on the issue.
