GREEN COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Only four rivers in Wisconsin have flood warnings Friday.
That’s down from 7 earlier in the week. The Pecatonica River in Green County is over 3 feet above its flood stage at Martintown – but only minor flooding is forecast by the time the river drops below its banks sometime Saturday.
Minor flooding is also predicted on the other rivers with warnings – the Milwaukee River at Cedarburg, the Sheboygan River at Sheboygan, and the Fox River in Kenosha County.
Meanwhile, the state DNR is urging farmers not to spread manure this month on fields which are prone to runoff.
Officials say the melting snow can carry the manure into waterways, posing health risks for both people and animals. Experts suggest stacking manure away from places close to the waters – and away from drinking water wells and areas with sinkholes.
The DNR has an advisory system online which predicts the risks of runoff. It’s updated three times a day.
