LA CROSSE, WI (WSAU) - For those of you who thought it would be a cold day when they started replacing the I-90 Mississippi River bridge at La Crosse, you were right.
Construction officially starts today on the $187.5 million project to build the new Interstate 90 crossing. Temperatures are below zero, and wind chills make it feel even worse.
Minnesota’s Department of Transportation spokesperson Kristine Hernandez says you won't see a lot of activity immediately, and traffic will continue to flow as usual for much of the four-year project. As the work progresses, there will be lane closures and ramps closed with the Highway 61 interchange at the west end of the bridge. That interchange is also being redesigned and rebuilt.
