NEW FRANKEN, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities rescued ten stranded fishermen from two separate ice floes on the on the bay of Green Bay Monday.
New Franken firefighters were called to Bay Shore Park around 9:40 a.m. concerning 14 ice fishermen. However, four were able to make it make it back to shore on their own.
Rescuers say one chunk of ice was about the size of a football field; the other was larger. No one was hurt. The small ice floe stranded a group of three and a larger floe separated the other seven. The U.S. Coast Guard and Brown County Sheriff’s Department dispatched their ice rescue boats to the scene and the fisherman were back on shore just over an hour after the call. All of the fisherman were checked out by emergency medical services. The U.S. Coast Guard says water temperature was 32 degrees with air temperature of 22 degrees.
