LA CROSSE, WI (WSAU) -  A man attempting to cross-country ski from La Crosse to Galesville is hospitalized after breaking through ice on the Mississippi River. The man crawled out of a hole in the ice about 30 feet from shore. He was found by a La Crosse newspaper reporter, who called 9-1-1 for assistance.

He remains hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. The man’s name and medical condition hasn’t been released.
