MADISON, WI (WSAU) - The State of Wisconsin might sue an Illinois company for damages to the Capitol’s marble floors. Department of Administration officials say Peterson Cleaning is responsible for stains on about 100 marble stones because of leaking battery acid from a floor cleaning machine.

DOA officials figure it will cost over $16,000 to clean and polish the stones to remove the stains. That work is expected to take another 10 weeks to complete. The Department of Administration has also hired a new cleaning contractor.

Peterson Cleaning officials declined to comment.
