FAIRCHILD, WI (WSAU) -  Thirteen people are hospitalized after a three vehicle crash Sunday afternoon east of Fairchild. Clark County Sheriff’s investigators say the crash happened on Highway 10 near Abbott Ranch Road at about 3:30 p.m. They say an eastbound vehicle lost control on the slushy road surface, sideswiped a westbound vehicle, and then hit another westbound vehicle nearly head-on.

Seven people in the striking vehicle were hospitalized. Five more from the westbound vehicle, and one from the sideswiped westbound vehicle were also hospitalized. They were taken to hospitals in Osseo, Black River Falls, and Marshfield.

Highway 10 was closed and traffic was rerouted until nearly 8:00 p.m. Sunday.

Names of the victims have not been released. Clark County deputies say some patients are in critical condition and some have been treated and released. Three victims had to be extricated from the wrecked vehicles.

Assisting agencies at the scene included: Alma Center First Responders; Black River Falls Fire and EMS; Fairchild Fire and First Responders; Humbird Fire Dept.; Marshfield Fire and Rescue; Merrillan Fire and First Responders; Neillsville EMS; Osseo EMS; Ministry Transportation Services-Spirit Ground; Clark County Highway Department and Wisconsin State Patrol.
