MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ) - Six jurors and three alternates will be chosen Monday to hear testimony at an inquest into the death of Derek Williams.
The 22 year old Milwaukee man died while he was struggling to breath in the back seat of a police squad car.
The jury’s advisory verdict will guide a special prosecutor who must decide whether to file criminal charges against the police officers who didn’t help Williams.
The officers were previously cleared of any wrongdoing, but the case was re-opened and the special prosecutor appointed.
Parallel to the local investigation is a federal criminal civil rights investigation being conducted by the FBI.
The Milwaukee Police Department could be sued.
