MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The number of people murdered in Milwaukee over the past week has risen to eight.
Police said Friday that 18-year-old Xavier Melgoza has died, after he was shot twice in the head while trying to stop a thief from stealing two cases of beer from a grocery store on Milwaukee’s south side.
Also, 44-year-old William Melendez Junior died, after he was shot during a robbery at a Family Dollar store on Milwaukee’s southwest side. Both shootings occurred on Tuesday.
Also, police said Friday that an 18-year-old man is facing charges for the shooting death of 23-year-old Samuel Soto last Sunday. Soto was killed in what police called a gang dispute.
In addition, police have released a surveillance video of a woman being killed on Wednesday night while she was pumping gas at northwest side convenience store. Investigators said a suspect walked up to the woman, shot her, and stole her car.
Authorities now say 23 people have either been killed or wounded in Milwaukee since last Friday. For the first time in several days, police did not report any new shootings Friday morning.
