MADISON, WI (WSAU) - A woman will spend a year in prison for causing a fatal crash while driving and texting. 21-year-old Stephanie Kanoff’s attorney asked for probation, but Dane County Judge Stephen Ehlke rejected the proposal Friday. Kanoff will also serve two years of extended supervision after the year in prison. A jury found Kanoff guilty of homicide by negligent driving in the death of 21-year-old Dylan Ellefson in July. Ellefson was a University of Wisconsin-Madison student, and was behind his disabled car when Kanoff's minivan hit him on October 24, 2010. Kanoff choked up as she told the judge she is sorry for the crash.
