Sometimes great song ideas can come from bad experiences. Muse frontman Matt Bellamy says that “Madness,” the first single from his band's upcoming album The 2nd Law , was inspired by an argument he had with his wife, actress Kate Hudson .
“’Madness’ is about friction in a relationship, resolving conflict with a loved one and the madness of being caught up in fighting with someone you love," Bellamy tells the New Zealand Herald .
The singer added that The 2nd Law is a unique album because it features a variety of tracks that delve into the band’s personal lives. "We're singing about things like relationships for the first time,” explains Bellamy. “I did that for a bit on the first album [1999's Showbiz ] but then I started doing interviews and thought, 'oh my God, I can't answer these questions, they're getting too personal'. So that's when we started getting all conceptual and pretending the album was about the end of the world, or whatever."
You’ll get your first chance to hear songs from The 2nd Law played live when Muse takes the stage later this month as part of the iTunes Festival. The band is scheduled to perform at London’s Roundhouse on September 30, just two days before the release of The 2nd Law .
