GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials say work is set to begin Monday on a project to add rumble strips to several area highways.

The DOT says center line and shoulder rumble strips are being added to help alert drivers that their vehicles have drifted out of the travel lane.

Highways in northeast Wisconsin which will be part of the project are:

  • US 10 (Calumet Co.) from County N to west county limits (gapping Brillion)
  • US 10 (Manitowoc Co.) from east county limits to I-43 (gapping Reedsville and Whitelaw)
  • WIS 15 (Outagamie Co.) from US 45 to Julius Dr. in Greenville (gapping Hortonville)
  • WIS 47 (Outagamie Co.) from County O to County B
  • WIS 32 (Oconto Co.) from Gillett to Lakewood (gapping Suring, Mountain, and Lakewood)
  • WIS 32 (Forest Co.) from Townsend to Wabeno (gapping Townsend and Carter)
  • WIS 42 (Door Co.) from Sturgeon Bay to Egg Harbor (gapping Carlsville)
  • US 141, US 141/US 8 (Marinette Co.) from Wausakee to Amberg (US 141) and from Pembine to Niagara (US 141/ US 8)
  • US 8 (Marinette Co.) from US 141 to Michigan State Line

Work is set to begin in Marinette County and will generally move north to south, the DOT says. All roads will stay open, but traffic may be backed up.

The project will cost $1.8 million. Century Fence of Green Bay is the main contractor.

Construction is set to wrap up in November.
