Aerosmith 's Joe Perry makes no bones about where his political leanings lie in a new interview with NoiseCreep.com .
"I'm a Republican, but I'm a Republican from the old school," he tells the website. "I was taught that you get what you put into it. You can be anything you want to be if you work hard enough at it."
While the guitarist is a supporter of the right, he cites John F. Kennedy as one of his favorite presidents.
"You need somebody you can believe in," he explains. "I didn't believe in everything Kennedy said or did, but you believed in your heart that he was really there and he was going to stand up for what he believed in."
He also expresses his appreciation for Dwight D. Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan , while noting that he also backed 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain .
"I was one of the few people that came out for McCain and got a lot of s**t for it," Perry points out. "There's an awful lot of people out there in L.A. that were jumping up and down for [ Barack ] Obama that aren't right now."
Perry says he and his Aerosmith band mates are "pretty much on the same page when…talking politics," adding, "We all came up in that era when you were taught that can do anything you set your minds to and by God we walked on the moon, just like JFK said we would."
