SHAWANO, WI (WTAQ) - Shawano County's emergency management director has resigned after being arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of possessing child pornography.
Steven Haskell was booked into the Shawano County Jail Sunday by the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation, according to the sheriff's department.
Haskell allegedly violated county policy by improperly using county computers assigned to him.
A press release from the sheriff's department states they were made aware of the allegations on September 14, leading officials to investigate the matter over the weekend. They eventually turned the evidence over to the DCI.
Officials with the sheriff's department declined further comment, directing any questions to the DCI.
Wisconsin Department of Justice spokeswoman Dana Brueck said in an email that they do not comment on ongoing investigations.
Haskell has worked as the county's emergency management director for about seven years, and had resigned from his position over the wekeend.
County officials held a meeting Wednesday morning to discuss how to divide emergency management work.
No charges have been filed against Haskell. The DOJ did not indicate if or when charges might be filed.
