While Jack White has performed at several big festivals including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and the Firefly Music Festival, the singer has revealed that he isn’t fond of playing for the people who attend them.
"[Festivals are] a necessary evil in the business," the singer tells BBC News . “You get exposure to people who would never come and see you and [the organizers] offer bands a lot of money so they can't say no, but they're not my first choice to perform music. Everyone's drinking and lazing in the sun and walking around and that's a fun thing for them but it's not interesting for me.”
White will have to deal with festival crowds a few more times next month. He’s a headliner at the Virgin Mobile FreeFest at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on October 6; the Austin City Limits festival at Zilker Park in Austin, TX on October 13 and the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience festival in New Orleans, LA on October 28.
