The Milwaukee Brewers, at least in the conversation for the National League Wild Card after a weekend sweep of the Pirates at Miller Park, opened a four game series in Miami on Labor Day but the fish got away for a 7-3 victory. Carlos Gomez gave the Brewers a 2-0 lead with a two run home run in the second off Ricky Nolasco. The Marlins cut the lead in half with a run off starter Mike Fiers as he committed and error on a pick off throw. In the 4th, the wheels came off for the Brewers rookie as Miami batted around and had seven consecutive hitters reach base in a five run explosion. Another error by Fiers on a bunt kept the rally going. Fiers worked three and a third innings, giving up six hits, six runs, four of them earned and he walked four to fall to 8-7. Ryan Braun delivered an RBI single late, his 96th run batted in on the season but it wasn't enough. Milwaukee (65-69) will send Shaun Marcum to the mound against Wade LeBlanc in game two of the series at Marlins stadium Tuesday night.
