MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Workers in southeast Wisconsin who get health insurance from their companies will pay 10 percent more than last year for their share of coverage and treatments.

That’s according to an annual survey released Wednesday by the benefit consulting firm of Aon Hewitt.

The report says the average employer share for a worker’s health benefits will be about $12,700 this year – 5.2 percent more than a year ago. Employee premiums and co-pays average just over $5,200 – an increase of 10.2 percent.

Aon Hewitt surveyed almost 470 large employers in Metro Milwaukee – and it said the increase in the employer share was more than a year ago, when costs rose 8.2 percent.

Next year, Aon Hewitt projects a nearly 7 percent increase in employer health costs, on par with the national projection.

Employee costs are expected to rise another 9 percent, as workers continue to pick up a greater share of their overall health expenses.
