Mumford & Sons ’ sophomore release, Babel , has sold 600,000 in its first week of release, according to Nielsen Soundscan.  That earns the band their first number-one spot on the Billboard 200 albums chart and the honor of having the biggest debut of any album released in 2012 in the U.S.

With 600,000 copies sold, Billboard reports, Babel easily topped this year’s previous first-week record setter, Justin Bieber ’s Believe , which sold 374,000 copies.

Babel had the biggest sales week for a rock album since AC/DC 's Black Ice sold 784,000 copies its first week out in 2008, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
