While My Morning Jacket continues to tour in support their latest album, Circuital , frontman Jim James has revealed that he plans to go solo later this year.  In an interview with ABC News Radio, the singer revealed that we can expect a new solo album to hit stores “later this year, maybe October.”

James says that he will be exploring new creative avenues on the forthcoming release.  “It's definitely not like an acoustic guitar kind of thing,” explains the singer.  “It's definitely a fully instrumentalized, thought-out album.  It's in the process of trying to put together a touring band, and get that ready to go out on the road.”

The singer added that recording the new solo album was “a very low-pressure, no-time-constraints kind of thing that I did in my spare time” in his home studio.  “I really wanted to have that kind of environment, you know, where one second you're washing dishes and the next second you're cutting a vocal, or whatever,” notes James.  “You know, just whenever you can and there's no, nobody else there.  That's another thing, I've wanted to work on my engineering skills and try and do it all myself.”

In addition to releasing the solo album, James added that MMJ will head into the studio next year to record the band’s next album.  “We are gonna, hopefully, start one maybe early next year,” says the singer.  “January, February of 2013 we'll start another Jacket record.”
