GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - Green Bay police say the older model car pulled from the Fox River in downtown was reported stolen back in 1979, and likely dumped in the river. Police say the four-door sedan is a 1975 Plymouth Valiant from Minnesota. Evidence technicians say it appears a tire iron was used to push the accelerator down and the vehicle’s transmission was in drive. The owner, now deceased Paul Renard, is a Green Bay native. He reported the car stolen from Duck Duck Goose Bar at 420 N. Clay Street on March 10th 1979. Renard stated he left the vehicle running in the parking lot, and when he came out it was gone. Renard retied in Eden Prairie, Minnesota in 2010, and died a year later in a boating accident on the Bay of Green Bay. Police say the vehicle will be destroyed.
