It was another hair raising finish for the Milwaukee Brewers but this time, the beleagured bullpen finally nailed down a save in the 8-7 victory over the Houston Astros at Miller Park. The Crew managed only two hits in the first six innings against Bud Norris but broke through with four runs in the bottom of the 7th thanks to a two run homer by Nyjer Morgan. In the 8th, Cody Ranson launched a three run shot to give the Brewers an 8-4 lead. The pen allowed the Astros to rally with three runs crossing the plate in the 9th but shortstop Cesar Isturis made a terrific play for the final out. John Axford, with his long locks cut, earned his 17th save. Livan Hernandez was the winner in relief of Marco Estrada.
The Brewers lead the major leagues in losses among relief pitchers with 26, and in blown saves with 21 and as a result, fired bullpen coach Stan Kyles on Monday. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Lee Tunnel, the club's minor league pitching coordinator.
