GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - A high speed chase involving a stolen Dodge Viper leads to numerous traffic accidents along U.S. Highway 41 near Suamico ends with the driver fleeing on foot in Green Bay. Authorities are now actively searching for the suspect. Around 11:15 a.m. Saturday, a chase ensued on going south on US 41 that caused three crashes, one involving a vehicle pulling a boat. The chase crossed over to the northbound lanes and caused another crash. Various lanes of that section of highway in both directions were closed for periods of time. Oconto County and Brown County Sheriff’s Departments eventually discounted the chase out of concern for public safety. The suspect vehicle continued southbound on I-43 from US 41. Green Bay officers spotted the severely damaged black Viper in the area of University and I-43. The car came to stop, and the male driver ditched the high performance car and ran into the woods at Bairds Creek. A K-9 unit was brought in to try and track the suspect to no avail. Green Bay Police says the suspect is described as a male white, late teens to early twenties, 5’10” to 6’1”, 165 to 185 pounds, blondish brown hair, possible goatee and wearing black and white shorts. Dispatchers with the Wisconsin State Patrol say the vehicle was reported stolen, but could not say from where or when it was reported. The Oconto County Sheriff is not releasing any more information at this point.
