The 67th US Womens Open Golf Championship week has begun at Blackwolf Run in Kohler. The entire field arrived Monday for the first practice round of the week at the course which hosted the 1998 Open, won by Se Ri Pak in a memorable19 hole playoff. Another South Korean, So Yeon Ryu, is the defending Open Champion, winning at Broadmoor in Colorado last year. Temperatures in the 90's greeted the players Monday. The opening day featured a three team, five hole shootout sramble with WIsconsin Sports Celebrities. The team led by young pro and US Open rookie Cheyene Woods, the niece of Tiger Woods, won the event. She was paired with Packers president Mark Murphy and former Packer and Sheboygan native Bill Schroeder. The other celebrity teams featured ex-Packer Mark Tauscher and Kohler native and Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach Joe Wolf. Former Buck Tony Smith of Marquette and Wisconsin Badgers Heisman trophy winner Ron Dayne also participated. The tournament begins on Thursday on the original championship layout of the course that opened in 1988.
