23 year old Jonathan VanDam of Kalamazoo, Michigan captured the Elite series title of the 2012 B.A.S.S. Master Green Bay Challenge professional tournament on Sunday. VanDam scored big on the final day of fishing, brining home 23 pounds, 4 ounces, including a 5 pound, 11 ounce smallmouth bass. His catch allowed him to catch day three leader Brandon Palaniuk for the trophy and the $100,000.00 first prize check. VanDam becomes the second youngest angler to win an elite series event. With his family from Michigan among the large crowd at the final weigh-in, VanDam said he didn't even catch his first fish until 11:30 Sunday morning. The victory also earns VanDam a spot in next year's Bassmaster Classic in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
