DULUTH, MN (WTAQ) - Minnesota authorities say a nine year old boy from Iron Lake, Wisconsin, was killed by a lightning strike Saturday.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s office reports Luke Voigt was flown to a Duluth hospital, but was declared to be dead after efforts to revive him were not successful.

The victim and his 7 year old brother were on the Lake Superior beach at the time, but the younger boy wasn’t hurt.

Eight family members and friends were on a sailboat as it was taking refuge from a thunderstorm near Minnesota Point.

Four others suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.
