NEW YORK,NEW YORK  (WKZO)  --  Kalamazoo’s Favorite Yankee, Derek Jeter is having a brilliant start to this year’s season, slamming his third homer last night in a losing cause against the Twins, but sporting a .366 batting average so far this season.

Soon you will have to call him Dr. Jeter.

Siena College in New York State will give the Yankee Captain an Honorary Degree at their May Commencement  "in recognition of his leadership, accomplishments on the baseball field and dedication to improving the lives of young people through his Turn 2 Foundation.”

Jeter never attended college. He gave up a scholarship at the University of Michigan after he was drafted by the Yankees straight out of Kalamazoo Central High.
