Hope Goes to Work in NCAA's; Fennville Wins SAC Crown

            Hope College begins its two NCAA basketball tournament runs tonight. The Flying Dutchmen are in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, to face St. Norbert, with broadcast time on 92.7 The Van and www.927thevan.com at 6:10. At DeVos Fieldhouse, following a 5:30 PM tilt between Depauw and Lakeland, the Flying Dutch entertain Denison in a game that can be heard on 1450 WHTC and www.whtc.com at 7:10.

            Grand Valley State’s men battle Hillsdale in a Great Lakes Conference tournament semifinal contest this evening in Findlay, Ohio.

            In state major college men’s basketball last night: Michigan State edged visiting Penn State, 67-65; Western Michigan handled visiting Ball State, 67-52; and Central Michigan won at Eastern Michigan, 56-55. Detroit faces Wisconsin-Green Bay in a Horizon League tournament game at Indianapolis this evening.

 

            High school boys’ basketball along the Lakeshore last night saw Holland win at Zeeland East, 52-42; Saugatuck triumph at Marcellus, 74-53; Fennville victorious at Lawrence for the Southwestern Athletic Conference title, 72-54; and Black River fall to visiting Algoma Christian, 49-42. The regular season concludes this evening with Hamilton at Kelloggsville.

            State high school girls’ basketball tournament district finals action tonight finds West Ottawa hosting Grandville and Holland Christian battling Middleville at Allegan.

 

            On the ice last night: Pascal Pelletier’s goal with just over four minutes left lifted Peoria over the visiting Griffins, 4-3; and the K-Wings scored five goals in the second period to win at Reading, 6-3. This evening, the Griffins welcome Manitoba, and the Lumberjacks travel to Port Huron, while the K-Wings visit Elmira tomorrow night.
