SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WTAQ) - Authorities say a fire that destroyed a Sheboygan County factory overnight might have been set on purpose. All four buildings at the Lakeshore Pallet Company near Oostburg were destroyed.
The plant made wood pallets and pellets for wood-burning stoves. Fifteen fire departments responded to the blaze late last night, and it was still smoldering this morning. One firefighter suffered a back injury, and was taken to a Sheboygan hospital.
The Sheboygan Press quoted police scanner reports as saying there were simultaneous fires in multiple buildings which indicated the fire started in more than one place. The state Fire Marshal is investigating, along with US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
The buildings had a combined area of 80-by-400-feet, and they all contained materials used for production.
