MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Wisconsin and 8 other states are suing at least one company that sells service contracts to car owners. Attorneys general in the 9 states allege that US Fidelis of Missouri and the Credexx Corporation of California have used misleading tactics to sell service contracts, by claiming they were extended warranties.

Credexx is better known as Auto One Warranty Specialists. Wisconsin, Iowa, Texas, and Pennsylvania are suing only Fidelis. Ohio, Idaho, Kansas, North Carolina, and Washington are suing both firms. Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray says his state has received dozens of complaints from consumers. The 2 companies have not commented.
