MADISON (WRN) - Weight limits have been raised on most Wisconsin highways for farmers to haul crops which are late in being harvested. Governor Jim Doyle has signed an executive order that lets farmers exceed weight limits by up to 15 percent through the end of the year. As of last Sunday, 41 percent of Wisconsin's corn crop was still in the fields as farmers waited for wetter than normal corn to dry. Farmers must still comply with other vehicle requirements for size, operation, and driving qualifications. The weight exemption will not apply from Christmas Eve through December 27th. And it does not apply on most interstates and roads with special weight restrictions.
