The Packers relied on the right arm of Aaron Rodgers to empty Reliant Stadium in a 42-24 rout of the Houston Texans in front of a regular season record crowd of 71,702 and a national audience.  Rodgers was magnificent throwing a career best and franchise record tying six touchdown passes in the sorely needed victory against a team that was undefeated going in. Rodgers made it look effortless, hitting Jordy Nelson from 41 yards out three and a half minutes into the game and never looking back.  Nelson would catch two more scores, covering 21 yards in the second quarter and from a yard out in the third.  James Jones reeled in two TD's for a third straight game with both coming in spectacular fashion, stretching out for a six yard score late in the first quarter and making a one handed catch from 18 yards away to close out the scoring.  Even backup tight end Tom Crabtree got into the act with a wide open 48 yard strike that came :31 seconds after the Texans closed to within 28-17.  That touchdown was set up by Randall Cobb's 46 yard kickoff return.   Rodgers finished the night with a passer rating of 133.8, completing 24 of 37 passes for 338 yards.  The six pack of touchdowns came without an interception.  Rodgers admitted he heard about the critics who wondered why his performance was a bit off from his MVP season a year ago and he used that as motivation to spark his team. He had help from receivers who made plays, despite another handful of dropped balls, protection that held for the most part, J.J. Watt took over the NFL sack lead by getting Rodgers down twice, giving him 9.5 on the season.   Alex Green helped keep the Texan defense honest with an honest nights work on the ground, 65 yards on 22 carries.  Nelson finished with 9 catches for 121 yards, Cobb had 7 for 102.  The Packers scored their six touchdowns in their first nine posessions.  Lest we forget the defensive effort.  Against one of the most balanced teams in the league, the Pack's run defense held the NFL's second leading rusher, Arian Foster to 29 yards on 17 carries.  Sure he scored on a pair of one yard runs but the unit turned Houston one dimensional and Matt Schaub couldn't answer the bell.  Schaub was sacked three times, including the first snap of the game by C.J. Wilson.  Jerel Worthy and A.J. Hawk also got home.  The longest completion for the Texans was a 27 yard catch and run by tight end Owen Daniels against blown coverage.  Andre Johnson caught 8 passes but averaged only 9.4 yards a catch.  As the Green Bay lead swelled, the takeaways returned.  Sam Shields picked off Schaub early in the 4th quarter and four plays later, the Packers increased their lead to 42-17.  Rookie Casey Hayward came up with a pair of interceptions.  One in the end zone and another in the closing minutes off backup quarterback T.J. Yates.  About the only glaring mistake came late in the game when a Tim Masthay punt was blocked by Bryan Braman and recovered in the end zone by DeVier Posey.  The Packers put up a season high 42 points and 427 yards against the league's third ranked defense.  They had no turnovers and only four penalties.  The Texans committed 7 fouls, with two of them coming on a series in which the Packers had 10 points come off the board.  A Rodger touchdown run was called back by a Marshall Newhouse hold and when Mason Crosby hit a short field goal, Connor Barwin was flagged for leaping off a Packer player to try and block the kick.  When the next series of downs fell short of the end zone, Danieal Manning was penalized for punching Newhouse in a pile.  Two plays later, Nelson caught his third touchdown of the game.   The Packers are now 5-0 all time in the city of Houston having never lost to either the Oilers (3-0) or Texans (2-0).  Heading into the game, the Packers activated free agent guard Greg Van Roten off the practice squad to take Cedric Benson's roster spot.  Wide receiver Jarrett Boykin was active for the first time this season.  The inactive players were Sean Richardson, Davon House, Terrell Manning, Van Roten, D.J. Williams, Greg Jennings and B.J. Raji.  There was a down side to the victory.  Injuries claimed linebackers Nick Perry, D.J. Smith along with Shields and backup running back Brandon Saine.   Mike McCarthy said Smith and Saine appeared to suffer significant knee injuries.  Green Bay (3-3) wraps up a three game road trip next Sunday in St. Louis against the 3-3 Rams.
