Is this fair or about time?

Every now and then you see something that happens that changes things forever.  Like the DH, the bullpen, and a closer in baseball.  Or how about a hard helmet with plastic shoulder pads in football.  What about this, thick pads and a stick that gets thick in the middle and a helmet that you decorate…of course hockey is the sport there.  Now there are more sports that have had improvements and things happen that revolutionized many sports.  However, there may not be a bigger event than what we will see when Oscar Pistorius takes to the track as a member of the South Africa track and field Olympic team.  Why am I making a big deal out of this.  Well because he has been trying to make the South Africa Olympic team for years now.  You still say, so what…how about this, he is a double amputee who runs on what are called runner blades.  Now you may be asking who cares.  Well I ask have you ever heard of the Paralympics?  If you come to this blog you have but if you don’t know what they are…they are Olympic games for the disabled athletes through out the world and they take place two weeks after the Olympics.  Oscar Pistorius has been in the Paralympics and has done well for himself.

The following table from Wikipedia, points out he has a lot of accomplishments in the Paralympics.

My first thought is, you have to prove nothing to anyone.  You are a great sprinter and have lots of gold medals.  But then the competitor in me comes out and says get to the highest of the mountain top.  So where do you come down on this.  Click here to read the story and let me know what you think.  Is it fair that a double amputee is allowed to compete against able bodied runners?  Yes I said fair, they are saying that his running blades are able to take more of a beating than that of a human ankle and foot.  Oh well just something to think about heading into the Olympics and Paralympics.  Let me know what you think.
