Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin stole his ex-wife's SUV, smashed it up, returned it a few hours later, then threatened her.

According to his ex-wife, Jessica Scantlin, she woke up and noticed her Honda Pilot had vanished. She suspected Wes because he'd taken it before.

She texted Wes' manager to demand that he return the car. 6 hours later he texted back the exact location of where it was.

According to Jessica, cops impounded the Pilot to have it tested for prints but she's "100% sure it's Wes" because the windows weren't broken and she claims he has a spare key.

She also claims she got weird texts from Wes, including one that said: "Learn. You can't hide. I hope you have a shovel."

Jessica's lawyer filed papers to have Wes held in contempt of court for making the threats and for taking the car, which she got in their divorce.

No comment from Wes or his camp.
