An Army wife (Ashley Wise) based in Fort Campbell, launched the Facebook campaign, Battling Bare, after her husband was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder.
Her pledge: 'Broken by battle, wounded by war, my love is FOREVER - to you this I SWORE. I WILL: Quiet your silent screams, Help heal your shattered soul, Until once again, my love, YOU ARE WHOLE! Battle bare.'
Her photo photo created a buzz and soon others were posting their photos on the page. While some women pose wearing items of military uniform, others have the American flag as a background.
Meanwhile children affected by parents with PTSD, or simply wanting to support the cause take photos with the pledge emblazoned on their feet - a measure to ensure their privacy is protected.
The group has already attracted more than 3,500 likes on the social networking site.
