***UPDATE: Scott Weiland just posted on his Facebook page that he first learned of his termination this morning in the press!

"Per Scott Weiland:

I learned of my supposed “termination” from Stone Temple Pilots this morning by reading about it in the press. Not sure how I can be “terminated” from a band that I founded, fronted and co-wrote many of its biggest hits, but that’s something for the lawyers to figure out. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing all of my fans on my solo tour which starts this Friday."

The Stone Temple Pilots just officially announced that Scott Weiland was fired from the band. We've had our suspicions for awhile. In December of last year, Slash was asked why he thinks Scott Weiland (once again) publicly said he wants to get back together with Velvet Revolver. Here's what Slash said:

"That's because he got fired from STP," but then he added, "I think, all things considered, because these things always catch me by surprise, too, because I only find out about it through the media. I'm on the road in another country and I start hearing all this stuff, so I inquire within, and that's what I was told."

At the time, STP never released a statement denying or confirming the rumor. Today, they simply said: “Stone Temple Pilots have announced they have officially terminated Scott Weiland.”

Weiland does have a solo tour planned.
