You've got one week to come up with a game plan for Valentine's Day. Many factors decide how hard you have to work to make the night special. THIS CHART is funny, but does help.
As a chick, I feel qualified to help point you in the right direction. I've been looking online and saw some crappy ideas, and some great ones. The great ones are below. Take a look. It should help get your noodle going.
Movie Night Basket
Package her favorite movie (or one she's mentioned she's always wanted to see, or one that reminds you of her) with a cozy blanket, and a package of popcorn in a wicker basket for a romantic stay-in date for Valentine's Day. You can add in other little knick-knacks she likes. A bottle of wine or whiskey is also a good idea.
*Mix-tape (CD) w/ Liner Notes
It's a classic. This is a great idea if your Valentine loves music. Choose songs that are significant, even if it's for a small reason. ('If You Only Knew' because it came on while you were driving to see Shinedown and she looked beautiful when she was singing along). What is going to take this to the next level is creating packaging too. Make a booklet with liners notes that explain exactly why you picked each song.
Something You Can Share/Do Together
Go to a wine tasting together. Take a cooking class together. If there's something she's been asking you to do or try, do it. If she liked 50 Shades of Grey, check this out. It's a kit for that special 'together time.' Is one of her favorite bands going out on tour? Buy the tickets! Perhaps you can also get a room and make it a bigger event.
A Weekend Away for the Two of You
NOTE: If you've been dating for just a few weeks or even a couple of months, do not do this. Remember 'The Stock Tip' episode of Seinfeld where Jerry went away with a gf and got stuck inside, because it was raining. They ran out of things to talk about, and it was hell. However, if you've been together awhile and been busy lately, this would be a nice chance to be together.
A Photobook or Collage
Put together memories from concerts, trips, and places you've gone together in an album. If you want to do a collage, glue movie stubs, concert tickets or other extras (assuming they're flat) along with the photos to heavy sheet of paper you can frame.
Those are just a few ideas. The mix-tape w/ booklet and packaging is my favorite idea, because I'm a music lover. Chocolates, jewelry, flowers, and all the obvious choices aren't bad options. But, find a way to make it more personal by connecting it to her in some way. EX: Maybe instead of just getting her a heart necklace, you get her one with ballet shoes, music notes, robots... whatever interests her.
You might want to avoid:
- Lingerie - unless you absolutely know her exact size. If it's too big or too small, she will think that you think she's fat.
- Chocolates - if she is obsessive about her weight. I think the average girl is okay with taking in extra calories for candies for V-Day. But if she doesn't eat a piece of candy without spending an extra hour at the gym to make up for it, skip the candy.
Hope it helps! If you try one of my ideas and she hates it, feel free to blame me. I will apologize.
