Randy Duke spent two hours each day protesting in front of the school that suspended his son, during his leave from Afghanistan. What did his 13 year old son do? He stood up to a bully who was picking on a special needs child.
Max, the son, had also been tormented by that same bully for years. The final straw came when Max made a paper airplane for the special needs child, and the bully came over to smash it. Max said, "Why would you do that?" Then, the bully pushed Max, so Max pushed back. That was the extent: shoving.
Max's dad was mostly upset because of the severity of the punishment. He was suspended for 2 days, sent to an alternative school for 30 days, AND kicked out of the marching band. An in-school suspension would have been enough.
Of course, Max shouldn't have shoved back. Two wrongs don't make a right... blah blah blah. But seriously, what kind of message is this sending to these young adults?
