Little Steven reunites the Rascals Posted April 28, 2010 by David Louis

The original lineup of The Rascals reunited this past Saturday (4/24) for a fund-raising concert in New York.

Eddie Brigati, Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli performed at Robert DeNiro's restaurant Tribeca Grill to benefit the Kristen Ann Carr Fund that supports programs designed to help teenagers and young adults with cancer and other serious illnesses. It was the first time the blue-eyed soul legends performed together since their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997.

Steven Van Zandt, who along with his wife Maureen were honored at the annual fundraiser for all the work they carried out for the fund.  It was Little Steven who gave The Rascals’ induction speech at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. .

"I speak on behalf of the band when I say all the money offers in the world could not entice The Rascals to reunite," guitarist Gene Cornish said in a statement. "But four phone calls from Stevie and without hesitation we enthusiastically and immediately agreed to both support this wonderful cause and honor Stevie and Maureen."

The Kristen Ann Carr Fund was founded in 1993 by Bruce Springsteen's co-manager Barbara Carr and her husband, writer Dave Marsh, after Sarcoma claimed the life of their 21-year-old daughter Kristen. The fund has established a comprehensive sarcoma laboratory at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and provides sarcoma fellowships in both surgery and oncology at MSKCC.

Wozz Friday Nine @ Nine Posted April 22, 2010 by David Louis

Friday, after Bob & Tom, We'll take another dip in the pool that was 1979. I was too busy trying to figure out what the Central Scrutinizer was saying, to realize the 70's were coming to a merciful end. It began with Disco everywhere. Even Rod Stewart and Kiss got in the act. Eric Clapton finally married Patti Boyd, James Brown played the Grand ole' Opry and The Who played their first show without Keith Moon. 1979 ended on a great musical note with the release of The Wall from Pink Floyd. Wozz's 9@9 is 1979 right after Bob & Tom.

Wozz Tuesday Nine @ Nine Mara Posted April 19, 2010 by David Louis

1973 started with a television event watched by more than a billion people…Elvis Presley’s “Aloha from Hawaii”. Also that month, two unknown bands called Kiss and Aerosmith release their first album.

The Who Quadrophenia

On the last day of 1973, two brothers and their new band AC/DC, play a New Year’s Eve party at Chequers in Sydney Australia. The stuff that happened in between is what we’ll talk and rock about during the Wozz Nine @ Nine right after Bob & Tom.

JULY 1977 IN OAKLAND, LED ZEPPELIN PERFORM THEIR LAST U.S. CONCERT

Led Zeppelin Oakland 1977

On August 16th, 1977, we hear the news that The King is gone. Elvis is found dead at Graceland. One month later Marc Bolan (T Rex) dies in a car crash. A month after that is the plane crash killing Lynyrd Skynyrd's Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and Cathy Gaines. Fleetwood Mac's peter Green is sent to a mental hospital. Patti Smith falls off a stage... Alice Cooper enters re-hab...Keith Richards wakes up to Royal Canadien Mountain Police in his pharma...I mean hotel room. Other than that it was a pretty good year! I hope we'll have better luck with the 9 @ 9 ....1971 right after Bob & Tom.

Thursday Wozz Nine at Nine Posted April 14, 2010 by David Louis

Is it just me or does 1971's Fireball album cover look like a giant deep Purple space ummmm....seed?

Deep Purple Fireball

1971 was the year that Joni Mitchell releases the album “Blue”. It marked a turning point in music. It was simple and complex and surprising to many people including Bob Dylan (inspired Tangled up in Blue”) Robert Plant and Jimmy Page (Going to California). I only remembered it because Nazareth covered “This Flight Tonight” from the Blue album. Definitely worth a new listen. Thursday’s Wozz Nine @ Nine visits 1971. Wozz Wednesday Nine at Nine ... 1968 Posted April 13, 2010 by David Louis

As John Fogerty told Rolling Stone magazine..."Julie Nixon was hanging around with David Eisenhower, and you just had the feeling that none of these people were going to be involved with the war. In 1969, the majority of the country thought morale was great among the troops, and like eighty percent of them were in favor of the war. But to some of us who were watching closely, we just knew we were headed for trouble."

1968 wedding of Julie Nixon and David Eisenhower. Eisenhower later joined the Naval Reserve. C.C.R. released Fortunate Son November 2nd, 1969. But we're ...

Julie and David Eisenhower

Staying with 1968 for The Wozz Nine at Nine. With the unrest around the globe in 1968 there were also some great new music on the horizon.

* Rush. Free, Deep Purple, Nazareth, Yes, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath (as Earth) were brand new bands ready to take on the world. Wozz's Nine at Nine ... right after Bob & Tom.

Wozz Tuesday Nine at Nine 1986 Posted April 12, 2010 by David Louis

Wozz Tuesday Nine at Nine ... 1986

Stevie Ray Concert Poster

1986 was a swan song for some 60’s and 70’s Rockers … we lost Richard Manuel from the Band and Phill Lynott from Thin Lizzy. On the bright side,1986 was a new beginning for Aerosmith  (with a little help from Run DMC), Robert Palmer found the success that had eluded him and Bon Jovi went World Wide.1986 was also the year smoking was banned on ALL forms of public Transportation ... even Radio Station Concert Coaches to Alpine Valley! We'll torch up the 1986 Nine at Nine right after Bob & Tom on 93.5fm Wozz.
